In both his figurative paintings and landscape works, Shi Xinning presents us with images that appear documentary in nature, a fact which encourages us to believe his constructed world as 'truth'. Shi Xinning seems to be asking whether, through the images that we unquestionably accept in various forms of media, we have not already capitulated to other forms of simulated truth and that this self-delusion is in fact desirable as it provides us with a form of escape from the mundane realities of life. |
